ABOUT THE JOB:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides both operational and programmatic support to the organization. The CFO supervises the finance unit and is the chief financial spokesperson for the organization. The CFO reports directly to the President and Senior Vice President and directly assists on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget management, cost benefit analysis, forecasting needs and the securing of new funding.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist in performing all tasks necessary to achieve the organization’s mission and help execute staff succession and growth plans
• Provides leadership in the development for the continuous evaluation of short and long term strategic financial objectives.
• Train the finance unit and other staff on raising awareness and knowledge of financial management matters.
• Ensure credibility of the Finance group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts.
• Provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
• Work with the President and Sr. VP on the strategic vision including fostering and cultivating stakeholder relationships on various external levels.
• Ensure adequate controls are installed and that substantiating documentation is approved and available such that all purchases may pass external audits by clients or others.
• Work with the Sr. VP and President to ensure programmatic success through cost analysis support, and compliance with all contractual and programmatic requirements, this includes:
- Interpreting legislative and programmatic rules and regulations to ensure compliance with all provincial and federal guidelines,
- Ensure that all regulations and requirements are disseminated to appropriate personnel; and
- Monitoring compliance.
• Oversee the management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities for the organization including:
- Organizational revenue/expense and balance sheet reports,
- Reports to funding agencies and
- Development and monitoring of organizational budgets.
• Oversee the purchasing and payroll activity for organization.
• Develop and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the organization and oversee any potential awards and/or programs.
• Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, provincial and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
• Oversee the coordination and activities of independent auditors ensuring all issues are resolved and all compliance issues are met.
• Ensure adequate cash flow to meet the organization’s needs.
• Investigate cost-effective benefit plans and other fringe benefits which the organization may offer employees and potential employees with the goal of attracting and retaining qualified individuals.
• Oversee the production of monthly reports including reconciliations, as well as financial statements and cash flow projects.
• Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable and ensure a disaster recovery plan is in place.
• Develop systems and procedures for timely and efficient invoicing to clients to ensure continued cash flow.
• Develop receivables procedures for managing and obtaining payment on overdue invoices.
• Oversee the maintenance of the inventory of all fixed assets.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
• Ability to apply conceptual, analytical and evaluative skills in accounting operations and provide technical advice to senior management.
• Excellent command of written and spoken English is essential.
• Strong Canadian GAPP knowledge and financial statement disclosure.
• Intermediate level experience with Computer software including: Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint and PDF.
